The Story of Kanteen
We’re here to do things differently.
Back in 2014, a small independent café called 'Pop-Up' opened its glass doors in the midst of Birmingham's celebrated Custard Factory. Offering a frequently-rotated menu of fresh food and a range of drinks, Pop-Up received a warm welcome from Digbeth-dwellers and tourists alike.
Following three years of success, Pop-Ups' once quaint, yet ambitious venture underwent a significant renovation and expansion, and armed with a renewed vision, was renamed Kanteen.
Today, at Kanteen, we serve breakfast, brunch and lunch, which you can sit in to enjoy or order to collect if you're in a hurry — we've got you. When it comes to our food, we want it to make you feel good — that's why it's designed and prepared by passionate trained chefs, using fresh and natural ingredients sourced as locally as possible.

planted two trees in the Amazon rainforest!

Now, about that "vision." In addition to offering healthy feel good food and hand-crafted beverages, we’re care deeply about our team, the environment and how we carry out our business — that’s why in 2021, we’re hoping to become a B Corp.
B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility, with a shared goal: to shape a more inclusive and sustainable economy. In becoming a certified B Corp, we'd be joining a worldwide network of businesses who believe in using business as a force for good by placing people before profits.
So, as we journey ahead, you might ask, "what's in store?" And to that question, we say, "buckle in!"
This year, we're launching a series of exciting projects aimed at diversifying our offering and giving back to our local community, including: DESK — your very own workspace with perks at Kanteen; free nutritional meals for those in need in partnership with Open Kitchens; educational workshops through Kanteen Community; and live in-house and streamed events through Kanteen Presents.
